Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory
[aka. Aurora Heads]

Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory is an International Electronic music Unit formed in 1987 by AQi Fzono with some various unit members in New York. They started as an underground psychedelic Trance/Rave performance band heavily influenced by 60s and 70s Psychedelia, Hippie culture, Acid House, Psychedelic Rock such as Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead and ethnic music including Native American music. They called their audio-visual rave concert series "Multimedia Visionquest" that featured electronic and ethnic music, video drug and trance dancers.

They are known as one of the pioneering bands of "Psychedelic Techno" in the US (especially in New York) by their theatrical "Rave" party series and their first studio album Mars Botanical Garden (1988) that many say to precede "Goa" or "Psy Trance" music of the mid 1990s.

Five years later they released the second album Unexplored Region (1994) that had considerable influence from ethnic music, ancient music, Dark Ambient and IDM.

From 1997 to 1998 they collaborated with Far East Acid House Quartet and co-produced Far East's unfinished last album "Electric Locust"(1998). PPRL wrote several techno/dance pop tunes such as "Mrs. Cyborg", "Electrode Land" and "Wireless Junction" that later became local club hits in some parts of the US and Japan. Many fans say that they feel this is almost like one of PPRL' albums.

Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory, Hypnotic Twin and Trance-Rave Daughters later released a remix album "Mrs. Cyborg's 12 Dreams" (1999) that each of them remixed those tunes into "psy trance" and "trip hop" styles.

After the formation of Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory in 1987, they have used several other names for the band on occasions such as Acid Head Organization and Aurorae. Currently "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" is the only name they use.
They have based in NYC (1988 - 2002), the state of Washington, USA (2003 - 2007), but they removed back to AQi Fzono's native Japan since 2008.

Note for Alias including "Aurora Heads":

AQi Fzono has used various alias such as "Hobo Summit ", "Acid Head Organization", "Aurorae" and etc. "Aurora Heads" was one of them.
It was a unit name tentatively used in their early phase during the late 1980's to the late 1990's in their albums released in the USA. Therefore in the USA, they are known as "Aurora Heads", [However, in the other parts of the world, Europe and Asia, those albums were released under the name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory". ]

In 2008, AQi Fzono unified the unit name to the original name, "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory". So on this site, the unit name was unified to this name.
